Some Lexus keys operate at 314 MHz rather than the 315 MHz frequency commonly found in many Toyota applications. The difference is important, even when two keys have similar housings and button layouts.

Scion Remote Keys

Remote-Head Keys
A remote-head key combines three functions in one housing:
- A mechanical blade for the doors and ignition
- A transponder chip for the immobilizer system
- Remote buttons for keyless-entry functions
Both the transponder and remote portion must be compatible with the vehicle. A correctly cut blade may turn the ignition but will not start the engine if the chip is incorrect or unprogrammed. Likewise, a programmed transponder does not guarantee that incompatible remote buttons will work.
Toyota Remote Flip Keys
Remote flip keys store the blade inside the housing when it is not in use. Pressing the release button allows the blade to rotate into the operating position.

The blade must be cut accurately and secured correctly in the flip mechanism. Inspect the roll pin and pivot assembly before returning the finished key to the customer.

The chip generation must match the vehicle’s immobilizer system. G-chip and H-chip keys can use similar housings or blades but are not electronically interchangeable.

Common FCC IDs

The FCC ID helps identify the remote transmitter, but it should not be used alone. A single FCC family may appear with different button layouts, blades, part numbers, or transponder chips.
Remote-Key Frequencies
Toyota, Lexus, and Scion remote keys may operate at different frequencies. Current collection options include keys using:
- 314 MHz
- 315 MHz
The replacement must use the frequency recognized by the vehicle. A key with the wrong frequency may have a compatible blade and transponder while its remote buttons remain nonfunctional.
Button Layouts and Vehicle Features
Remote keys are available in three-button and four-button configurations. Depending on the application, the additional button may control the trunk, rear hatch, or another vehicle feature.
Match the replacement key’s button icons to the original. A four-button key is not automatically a substitute for a three-button version, and an extra feature will not work if the vehicle is not equipped to support it.
Aftermarket, OEM, and Refurbished Keys

Cutting Toyota, Lexus, and Scion Keys
The mechanical blade must be cut to match the vehicle’s locks and ignition. Depending on the application, this may require edge-cut or high-security key-cutting equipment.
Before cutting:
- Confirm the blade profile
- Verify the key code or decoded combination
- Use the correct machine jaw and cutter
- Secure flip-key blades in the proper position
- Remove burrs after cutting
- Test the key gently in the door and ignition
Do not force a newly cut key. If it does not operate smoothly, inspect the blade alignment, depths, spacing, and lock condition.
Programming the Transponder and Remote
Toyota, Lexus, and Scion remote keys may require separate procedures for the immobilizer chip and remote buttons. Programming requirements vary by vehicle, chip generation, and whether working keys are available.
Some vehicles support onboard remote registration, while transponder programming may require compatible automotive-key equipment. All-keys-lost procedures may also require security access, immobilizer data, or vehicle-specific software.
Confirm that the programming tool supports the exact vehicle and chip type before beginning.
