Automotive Keys
The evolution of automotive keys reflects major advancements in vehicle security and convenience. What was once a simple piece of cut metal is now a complex electronic component crucial for a car's operation. At Noble Key Supply, we provide a full range of these modern solutions.
Mechanical Keys
These are the most traditional types, featuring only metal cuts designed to physically turn the ignition cylinder and door locks. While still common in older models, they lack integrated security features and can be easily duplicated by any locksmith or hardware store.
Remote Keys and Remotes
The first step in convenience technology added simple radio transmitters to a key head or as a separate fob ("remote"). These remotes operate the power locks and trunk release from a distance, but the mechanical blade is still required to start the engine.
Transponder Keys (Chip Keys)
A massive leap in security came with transponder keys, introduced widely in the 1990s. These keys contain a small electronic chip (transponder) embedded in the plastic head. When the key is inserted into the ignition, the car’s computer sends a signal that the chip must respond to with a unique, correct code. If the code is wrong, the engine is immobilized—hence the term "immobilizer system." These keys require specialized equipment to program correctly, a core service provided by professionals using parts from Noble Key Supply.
Proximity Keys (Smart Keys)
The latest standard in modern vehicles is the proximity key or "smart key." These allow the driver to keep the fob in their pocket or bag. The car senses the key's presence (proximity) and allows the user to unlock the doors by touching the handle and start the engine with a push-button ignition. This advanced technology uses continuous encrypted communication between the car and the fob, offering maximum convenience and high security.
